Directed by Maud Le Pladec since January 2025, the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine is fully in tune with its times, as exemplified in this re-creation of Works (2016). Michael Gordon's electrifying music revisits Beethoven in a whirlwind of energy, offering ten dancers from the Ballet de Lorraine the opportunity to embrace the codes of classical dance in order to transcend them.
With Turning Burning, Jan Martens created his first piece for ballet in 2016. Using a large ensemble, the Belgian choreographer pays tribute to iconic figures of post-modern and minimalist dance, such as Lucinda Childs and Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker. Martens focuses here on rotation in a work that is both hypnotic and powerful.
Twyla Tharp's The Fugue plunges us into the avant-garde energy of 1970s New York. This trio, inspired by Bach's Musical Offering, is a masterpiece of choreographic composition.
Each of the three performers represents a musical register: bass, alto and soprano. The music is created by the sound of the dancers' footsteps on an amplified stage.
Synchronicité, choreographed by Maud Le Pladec while she was dance director for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremonies, closes the evening. Created on the quays of the Île de la Cité with 300 dancers, including those from the CCN - Ballet de Lorraine, this vibrant piece is now part of the repertoire.
An evening where tradition and modernity meet, conveyed by the virtuosity and commitment of the dancers of the Ballet de Lorraine.
