Is science fiction just literary fantasy designed to thrill and excite us? Science communicator Daniel Suchet suggests that we should instead focus on the vast imaginary worlds that provide an ideal medium for presenting major physical concepts.

What is the Force in Star Wars? Isn't it an opportunity to explore the question of energy and its use by humans? Don't the interstellar conflict over spice production in Dune and the living conditions on Arrakis speak to us about limited resources and global warming?

By telling us about these invented worlds, Daniel Suchet invites us to familiarise ourselves with the scientific approach and its scope of application. Accompanied by a tailor-made musical programme performed by the Orchestra of the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine, he takes us on a journey through the scientific questions raised by these monuments of cinematic culture, from the perspectives of security, social justice and the sustainability of our energy systems.

This event is programmed by the Atelier durable, a space for monitoring, proposing and experimenting that brings together artists, technical and administrative staff from the Opéra national de Nancy-Lorraine. The aim of this second edition of the Concert-lecture is to bring together the scientific and artistic communities and their audiences to engage in collective reflection.
